Why “Creation?”

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

he very first sentence of the Holy Scriptures declare that Yah is the Creator of all that there is. He laid the foundations of existence, and separated matter from energy. He first made the earth, and then ransomed it back to Himself from the intruder, Sin, in the Person of His Son. However, the burden of this particular article is not to argue this point. There are some who do not believe this, and while it is ultimately true that “‘As I live,’ saith the Lord, ‘every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God,’” (Romans 14:11) the burden of this particular installment is directed to Christians.

There seems to be an alarming movement even within the professed Churches of Christ to try and reconcile these two concepts: creation and evolution, and to find some kind of a “middle ground.” However, what many do not realize is that evolution is only a theory... in fact, only a hypothesis, and therefore does not suffer if twisted and prodded to fit the available evidence. It is, primarily, an idea that originated within someone’s mind, and is therefore subject to review. The Word of God, however, is no such weak and flexible doctrine.

We have come a long way, have we not, from the days when a “thus says the Lord” was the proper way to end a discussion, with either or both parties involved submitting to the authority of the Scriptures? But I am not saying that the Bible supersedes facts and evidence either. Both science and religion are based upon evidence (not proof), and therefore both must be equally true. I myself come from a scientific background, and have brought this way of thinking over into my Christian life, with no turbulence at all.

To claim that if a fact contradicts the Bible, then that fact must be wrong, is dogmatic, and blind allegiance has no place in the Kingdom of Yah. The honest truth is that, regardless of what some scientists say, there is no evidence for evolution that cannot be explained at least as logically by the supporters of the creation doctrine. In fact, one such advocate, a scientist himself, offers a $250,000 reward to anyone who can provide a single piece of evidence for the evolution hypothesis that cannot be controverted by creationists. As far as I know, no one has yet relieved him of this sum.

There is also another excellent site for those interested in the science of creation, which is called Answers in Genesis. The articles on this site are quite informative, and interesting; and for the logical-minded reader, I highly recommend it. However, as I said this article isn’t really to give evidence for creation, per se, but as an appeal for those who already know the evidence to accept it fully, and to realize what it would truly mean to try and reconcile both concepts. You will find that in trying to squeeze both ideas together and make them fit, it is the Word of Yah that always suffers the loss of “validity” within the mind of the ponderer.

In fact, it is in protest of this movement (and for a few other reasons) that we have received the name “Creation” Seventh-Day Adventists because, with a brief explanation, it should become clear that unless the creation description is taken literally – exactly as described – then even the New Testament cannot be trusted or believed. This is not only because one flowed historically out of the other, but to believe in evolution actually invalidates the death of Christ on the cross, and sets at naught the work of atonement. In short, the very principle of salvation is denied if we accept the evolution hypothesis as being true.

The evidence for creation exists in science and in history. It does not need me to advocate its validity at this time, but instead I speak to those who do already claim to hold the Bible to be truth, “Although,” some state, “not to be taken literally in all places.” These ones claim that they believe that Yah did indeed create, but that He used the process of evolution as His means of doing so. The belief is called “Deism,”, or “Theistic Evolution”, and yet I propose to demonstrate that to even attempt a reconciliation is to express a lack of faith in the purpose of both the life and death of Christ Yahshua.

Let us look at the way our beloved Savior deals with things while He was here on earth:

- “And Jesus said unto the centurion, ‘Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee.’ And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.” (Mat 8:13)
-”And great multitudes followed Him; and He healed them there.” (Mat 19:2)
-”And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.” (Mark 5:29)
-”‘Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.” (Luke 7:7)
-”And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before Him, she declared unto Him before all the people for what cause she had touched Him, and how she was healed immediately.” (Luke 8:47)
-”And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, ‘Peace, be still.’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:39)
-”And Jesus put forth His hand, and touched him, saying, ‘I will; be thou clean.’ And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.” (Mat 8:3)
-”And He laid His hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” (Luke 13:13)
-”And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath.” (John 5:9)

By no means is this an exhaustive list, but one more example: perhaps the most important, “When Jesus had lifted up Himself, and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, ‘Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?’ She said, ‘No man, Lord.’ And Jesus said unto her, ‘Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.’” (John 8:10&11) Yes, it’s true; even a life of sin can be healed with a mere word and kind look from the Messiah. It was for this purpose He came and lived among us, to show how Yah feels about us, and how we should feel about each other.

But notice the words used to describe the way Christ did things: immediately, but in a word, in the selfsame hour, straight-away. He said to the wind, “Peace, be still,” and the wind ceased as He said it. Christ Yahshua is the Logos, He IS the Word. By Him, by the Word of Yah were “All things were made... and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:3) The Word of Yah is an instantaneous thing. As He speaks, at that very moment, sickness vanishes, corpses rise to life, leprosy is cleansed, sins are forgiven, hearts are won... and “all things” are made. As He speaks.

“But how,” you may ask, “can the creation story be literally true? In six days? People will think we are stupid.” Well, to address this last point first, the entire world thought that Noah was out of his mind. Yet he was the only one in the ark with his family when things got wet. Yah IS reality. If you don’t believe that the Father and Son could have made this tiny planet in all of six days, you have never experienced the power of Yah in your life. It is this very creative force that makes possible the life of victory over sin which is discussed in a previous article: The Victory.

To address the first point, the creation history MUST be literally true, or else we cannot be Christians of a sound doctrine. Have you ever wondered what happened to the microbes, and the fungi, and the fish, and the reptiles, and the four-legged beasts, and the monkey-like primates that Adam evolved from? According to natural selection, they died. In fact, according to evolution, they HAVE to have died for the succeeding generations to have been proven “better” and thus continued to evolve. Survival of the fittest, as the quote goes, meaning that those who are not fittest... die.

And yet, why did Christ die? Was it not to take OUR place under the power of the Law of sin and death? Was He not subject to the penalty of sin so that we might partake of His life? And yet, if we believe evolution to be true, there were BILLIONS of years of death... and all of this BEFORE Adam sinned! I need not take too many pains to show you the flaws in the logic of trying to hold both these to be true, do I? If there was death, disease (for the fossil records show there were indeed cancers and various other maladies), violence, and suffering before the sin of Adam (Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. [Romans 5:12]), then this means that even the New Testament is wrong when it declares that “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

And if the wages of sin is NOT death, not only is Paul a liar, but so is Yahshua Himself, for He also said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” (John 5:24) He came, and He died so that we might be saved from sin, and from the death which results from it. And yet, if sin is NOT the cause of death then our poor God Himself was deceived, and died for nothing! I do not worship a Father who does not know His own doctrine! Nor do I worship a God who used billions of years of death and selection to craft for Himself a perfect man, and then BLAME that man for all the aeons of destruction that came before he was even born!

The god of a world created by evolution is a cruel, arbitrary killer who lords his divinity over helpless beings by picking them off one by one just so that he could perfect an initially flawed design. I do not worship this god. In him is no salvation, no love. The Elohim to whom I bow made all things perfectly from the very beginning, His very first attempt: “And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31)

Fossils exist, carbon dating is said to be a method scientists use to attempt to classify objects by age, skeletons of certain animals which are no longer still alive seem to speak of a progression in the structure of lifeforms. Yes, all these things are so, but the Bible tells us of these things and how they fit the true story of how we got here. If you want to know how, please do visit the websites I mentioned above. They explain it in so much better detail than I ever could in one brief article. Creatures which we no longer see in the world today are mentioned in specific detail (and non-poetically) in books as historically late as Isaiah, and even later, if one reads the Apocryphal books. Of course, they are not called “mammoths,” or “pterodactyls,” but dinosaurs for example were known as “big lizards,” or dragons.

But all this is minor compared to salvation, isn’t it? I mean, as long as we believe Christ died to save us from our sins we will be fine, isn’t that so? Yes, absolutely. Yet, are we really better off if sin isn’t the reason we are in this mess in the first place? Yahshua died so that we might live. This is “Christianity 101.” It hinges on the facts put forth in Genesis, and if we attempt to dilute this in the slightest, we compromise with our enemy himself, who is ever seeking to throw darkness on the character of our beloved Father.

For those who worship a god who worked through the horror that evolution claims to be, the deceiver has already done his work. For the sake of future happiness with a loving and eternal Father and Redeemer, the idol that Satan has placed in the minds of this world must be thrown down; there must be a return to the faith given to our ancestors. Moses, who knew Yah so well, believed that our Father spoke the world into existence. Scientists, who have no such communion, claim that they are more advanced than the prophet. Do they know Yah better? Many have said that the creation story was just a tale to explain the world to those poor unfortunate people who lived thousands of years ago.

But this question must then be asked... if Yah wanted them to know the truth, and the truth wasn’t EXACTLY as He revealed in Genesis, why didn’t He tell them? Was it because they weren’t mentally advanced enough to understand? Are we so much more sophisticated than they were? Are we are smarter than the people of ancient Israel were? Look at what we have done to our world... If you think we are better off now than they were then, discernment is greatly lacking.

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the Everlasting Gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, ‘Fear God, and give glory to Him; for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.’” (Rev 14:6,7) What is the Everlasting Gospel? Is it not that Yah is Creator? Let all who claim to have the Gospel message worship the Father in spirit and in truth.

David.
