OPTIMAL HEALTH

Physical - Mental - Spiritual

"Is anyone of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well, the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven." James 5:14,15.

"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5.

God has given us through the Bible and nature laws for healthful living. When we heed these eight laws of health, God then gives us optimum physical, mental, and spiritual health! Improved physical health causes our minds to be clearer. When our minds are clearer, we are more sensitive to and able to hear the Holy Spirit talking to us. As we listen to the Holy Spirit and put our trust total in God, we experience the sabbath rest principle and become of one heart as God creates in us His heart of unity, which is Christian unity. Then, as we claim the precious promises of God, we live with the faith of Jesus and experience total victory over sin! Optimal health is obtained by:

  • TRUST

The condition of the mind effects the health. Many diseases are the result of mental depression, grief, anxiety, discontent, remorse, guilt, and distrust. All tend to break down the life forces.

    What You Can Do
Keep an open mind and don't be satisfied with what you have learned up to this point in life. Learning is a lifelong experience and the discovery of new truths is life's greatest adventure.

Carefully examine your belief system and be sure that it makes sense.

If you have never done so, try reading the Bible and discover its message. The theme of the Bible is that of a loving Creator intervening in a hopeless human situation, to bring healing and redemption, and in the process, to abolish death. It is a success story and YOU can be part of that success!

"They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever." Gal. 5:24.

    EXERCISE

A balanced and well-planned physical fitness program is the wisest investment you can make. It pays dividends, not only in the length of life, but especially in its quality. It may keep you out of a rest home the last ten years of your life!

    BENEFITS
    • A more efficient heart
    • A strengthened immune system
    • Better circulation
    • Increased endurance and more energy
    • Stronger muscles, bones, and ligaments
    • Sharpened mental powers
    • More efficient lungs
    What You Can Do
Choose an exercise program that you enjoy. It should be simple, safe, and suited to your needs. Choose a program that includes walking. Walk briskly for a minimum of 20 minutes five times a week. Start out slowly and work up gradually. Notice signs of overexertion. Walk your way to health and happiness!

    AIR

Deep breathing aids the circulation of blood, promotes digestion, induces sound sleep, and invigorates the whole system. To stay alive we must breathe! To be healthy and energetic we must breathe deeply! Lack of oxygen results in a lack of energy and tired feelings. It also effects our feelings as well as will-power, discernment, and judgment.

    What You Can Do
Breathe deeply through your nose - it filters, warms, and moistens the air. Use your abdominal muscles - your energy and efficiency will be increased. Avoid air pollutants such as tobacco, smoke, industrial smoke, and excessive dust. Breathe fresh, country air when ever possible!

    MODERATION
    (Temperance)

"Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple." Psalm 125:1.

    What You Can Do
Avoid that which is harmful and be moderate in the enjoyment of that which is good. Avoid extremes in anything.

    WATER

Pure water is one of heaven's choicest blessings. It helps to supply the necessities of the system and assists nature to resist disease. It is one of the best preventative medicines you can take to stay well and feel young. Insufficient water may cause depression and irritability, bladder problems, dehydration, blood clots, and even damage to vessel walls.

    What You Can Do
Start each morning with two 8-ounce glasses of water. Avoid drinking for a period of 15 to minutes before and one hour after meals for better digestion. Between meals drink at least two more glasses of water. Drink two more early in the evening.

Bathe daily with fresh water to keep your skin clean and healthy. This will also prevent toxins from being trapped inside due to clogged skin pores.

    OUTDOOR SUNSHINE

There is no life without sunlight. The sun's rays are life giving: sunshine is beneficial in moderation and with adequate protection. Sunlight, like exercise, lowers the resting pulse rate. It "tunes up" the heart muscle, increases cardiac output by improving the heart's efficiency, and tends to normalize blood pressure. Sunlight builds the immune system and uses up some of the body's pool of cholesterol!

    What You Can Do
Plan to spend some time in the sun every day. Let the sun shine into your living quarters. Avoid exposure one-half hour before and one-half hour after meals. Sun energy can alter your energy balance and interfere with digestion. Protect from overexposure with protective clothing.

    REST

Those who are brain-weary and nervous because of continual labor and close confinement should visit the country. There they can live a simple life in close connection with nature. Rest is the key to restoration.

    What You Can Do
Plan time for rest and relaxation. Learn to heed the fatigue signals your body sends out. Remember the day of rest our Creator has set aside for the restoration of body and soul.

    KINDS OF FOOD

Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple manner as possible are the most healthful and nourishing.
The results of sin have been effecting the earth for many years. We find that the soils are extremely depleted of their original and necessary nutrients. Because of this, we see the benefit of nutritional supplements in order to get the nutrients we need to stay healthy.

    What You Can Do
Use more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Use nuts and seeds in moderation. Use less sugar, fat, salt, and refined flour. Avoid snacks - eat at regular times.
