Subject: Rafael Perez Date: Sun, 13 Dec 1998 03:57:09 -0500 From: Omar BlancoTo: remnantchurch@protonmail.com My name is Omar Blanco and I am an Independent SDA from the Orlando, area in Florida. I just received some news today that Rafael Perez from the Eternal Gospel Laymen's Church in West Palm Beach is now under attack in court by both SDA and Catholic Lawyers. He has been given 20 days to renounce the use of the name SDA and the police visited his house. The Catholic Church in court is telling him that he needs to stop preaching against them and the SDAs are saying that it is not time for his message. He has been threatened with 500 an hour fees for the trademarked name SDA. You will have to check with him for the correct details in relation to the monetary sanctions against him. He might even go to jail. Omar Blanco
COMMENTARY ON EMAIL REPORT Pastor "Chick" called Pastor Perez on Monday morning, December 28, 1998. The facts gleaned by talking to Pastor Perez were as follows:
- The police visit to the Perez house was the service of due process-- originating the trademark infringement lawsuit.
- Pastor Perez, et al have until January 15, 1999 to answer the General Conference of SDA complaint.
- The attorney retained by Pastor Perez charges $300.00 per hour.
- If Pastor Perez does not prevail in this suit, he would be in contempt of court by continuing use of the name "Seventh-day Adventist" or its acronym "SDA"-- in which case fines and imprisonment would ensue.
Pastor "Chick" assured Pastor Perez that all faithful Seventh-day Adventists who know of this abominable persecution will be in "prayer without ceasing" for him and his brethren. We covet your prayers in this "time of trouble."
